I remember

​I remember when I first picked up a book;

I couldn't read then, but I remembered what it took.

I remember when I first picked up a book;

the first book being nonfiction, that one had my worldview shook.

I remember when I first picked up a book;

I thought it wasn’t cool to be nerd, but then again I don’t follow the herd.

I remember picking up the hammer, and my father telling me son that’s never the answer.

I remember picking it up so slowly and I said dad, “these dudes don’t know me”.

I remember those long drawn out conversations about 4 by 4 cells and sitting by your lonely.

I remember defeating my dark side like it was yesterday, and I always telling myself there’s better days;

I wear the son my chest like I’m superman going to save the day; that’s a dc comics line.

What I want to remember is the person I made myself today, and the opportunities that paved the way,

for the offspring I want to propagate. I remember by picking up a book, how comical one decision in life

can make you prosperous, or a crook, because look…
